BTEC Tech Award in Sport

What is this course and is it right for me?

The BTEC Tech award in Sport is for learners who enjoy Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport but want to acquire theoretical knowledge and technical skills through vocational contexts by exploring areas such as the body systems, nutrition, improving fitness and leadership.

The vocational context provides a job-related qualification and understanding that prepares learners to enter an area of work they are interested in or to progress on to further study Post-16. It is right for you if you have a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in the sport and leisure industry, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. Students who are organised and strong in project and assignment based work achieve well on this course.

What courses or employment can I progress to at the end of my course?

The BTEC Tech award in Sport can provide a suitable foundation for further study within the sector through progression on to qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Sport and Sport and Exercise Sciences and IB Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.

Alternatively, learners can progress to NVQs such as Activity Leadership or Coaching, Teaching and Instructing. The underpinning knowledge, practical and vocational skills learnt on the BTEC Tech award in Sport will enhance and support the progression to a competency-based course.
