The units covered (see below) give students a range of practical knowledge within key Business sectors, as well as aiming to develop the skills that Businesses crave in the labor market.

UNITS COVERED

  • UNIT 1 - Introduction to Business Management

  • UNIT 2 - Human Resource Management

  • UNIT 3 - Finance and Accounts

  • UNIT 4 - Marketing

  • UNIT 5 - Operations Management

These units combined form the basis of a well rounded Business qualification. Allowing transition into either Higher Education study at University or Higher Level Apprenticeships in the work place.

ASSESSMENT

External assessment for SL students consists of two written examination papers. Paper one is based on a pre-seen case study issued in advance, and paper two consists of structured questions based on stimulus material and an extended response question that assesses students’ understanding of the key concepts of the course.  Students doing the HL will complete both paper one and two and will also need to do an additional written examination paper based on unseen stimulus material about a social enterprise.

Internal assessment for HL students is a research project and for SL students a written commentary. In both tasks, students study real-world business organisations. These are internally marked by subject teachers and then externally moderated by IB examiners.
