Level 3 National Diploma

The BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Art & Design offers a series of practical units based upon briefs that you would find in the creative industries as well as external exam units in which students explore the formal, cultural and critical contexts of Art & Design. The course provides students with a broad range of creative skills giving them the opportunity and experience to either apply for work directly in the creative field or apply to University to undertake a degree bypassing an art foundation after Y13.

       

ART/PH will be able to....

 

  • Work to a brief based upon real world creative assignments.
  • Explore a wide range of materials, techniques and processes: Fine Art, 3D, Printmaking, Graphic Design and Photography.
  • Take risks, accept failure and then have the resolve to overcome hurdles, without ridicule.
  • Articulate, reflect, improve and develop, then synthesise art to a high standard
  • Research relevant contextual sources, expanding their own knowledge and understanding.
  • Increase their subject specific vocabulary, being able to articulate themes and meanings, in depth and with accuracy.
  • Achieve their full potential, accessing the higher grades, through effort and consistency.
  • Develop their talents to their full potential, enabling students be employable or ready for higher education.

Unit 3 - Creative Process

Unit 4 - Materials, Techniques & Processes

Unit 10 - Graphic Design OR Unit 13 - 3D Materials

Year 13

Unit 5 - Portfolio (prepare a portfolio for interviews)

Unit 7 - External Realising Creative Intentions

Unit 9 - Photography: Digital, Analogue, Alternative

Entry requirements:

Grade C or 5 (or above) in GCSE Art & Design OR Merit (or above) in Art & Design BTEC Level 2 are advisable in addition to Sixth Form entry requirements.
