Read­ing Week smashes it!


We have had a won­der­ful week this Read­ing Week, with this year’s theme being “Sto­ries From Other Coun­tries”. A num­ber of events have been hap­pen­ing at lunchtimes and dur­ing the school day, and spe­cial lessons with an inter­na­tional story theme have been enjoyed by pupils in var­i­ous lessons across the curriculum.
Here are some of our events and com­pe­ti­tion winners:
All of year 9 enjoyed watch­ing the film The Book Thief, which has com­ple­mented their learn­ing about World War 2 and The Holocaust.
Cake com­pe­ti­tion win­ners for a cake based on the Greek myth Pandora’s box — Elysha Mason and Elyesse Van Aalst from 9JN
Origami work­shop — the results were beautiful!
Year 9 dra­matic sto­ry­tellers group per­for­mance — The Bat­tle of Song — a tale of magic and power from Finland
Dress up as a char­ac­ter from a book from another coun­try. Win­ners: Ewan Tyler and Gemma South­wood (7JS) and Christina Zalewski (8CC). Staff win­ner: Mrs. O’Shea.
