Presentation Afternoon 2014

Presentation afternoon photo200On Wednesday 19th November King Ethelbert School celebrated the success and achievement of the last academic year at their annual Presentation Afternoon at the Winter Gardens.
All students from the school attend this event to celebrate together what King Ethelbert School has achieved. Mrs Willis, the Deputy Headteacher, said “We celebrate success at every level at our school and everybody is part of the school’s continued success”.

Parents, special guests and governors of the school joined the students in what was a very inspiring afternoon. Nick Ware was the guest speaker. Nick is the school’s PiXL associate who supports the school with the continued academic success of the students at King Ethelbert. Nick spoke to the students about ambition, drive and following dreams stating that “hard work will always be rewarded with opportunities and success”.

The Headteacher, Kate Greig, and Executive Headteacher, Paul Luxmoore, both spoke about the fantastic year King Ethelbert had. This was reflected by 63% of the students from last year’s Year 11 gaining 5 A*-C GCSE grades including English and Maths which made King Ethelbert the highest achieving non-selective school in Thanet and Kent. Kate Greig talked about the culture of the school and the sense of team as everyone had a part to play in the success of the school. “When everyone helps, everyone succeeds and this has never been so evident as it is right now at King Ethelbert School.“
Students won prizes in all year groups from academic success to prizes for endeavour and courage. The students also provided the entertainment with three brilliant musical performances from students across the school. One parent commented “The performances were so professional — the singing was amazing and moving — I had a tear in my eye”.
Head Girl Amy Fowler opened the event with the Chair of Governors Dr Virginia Austin, and Head Boy Cameron-Scott Millen rounded off the afternoon with a thank you to everyone for making the event so inspirational and so enjoyable.
