All our rehearsals definitely paid off!
On the 22nd of December, we broke up for the Christmas term with scripts in our hands and determinations in our minds .we were ready. None of us could foresee how much work and effort would be put into the ‘Mini Dream’ a short extract from A midsummer night’s dream by Shakespeare.
Christmas brought a brief break for our group to learn and go through the script. Our first rehearsal showed us what we had achieved so far and with the help of Miss Spenner, we knew what was needed to improve and build on our performance– making it the best one yet!
A month till the show and we now focused on our staging and characterisation. As soon as we found out we were up against a stage school we strived to hold our title, from previous years.
Days before the show and we were ready. Our performance hit a blow when a key cast member unfortunately was taken ill. We were left with no choice but to drop out until thankfully a another talented pupil stepped in. we were all amazed at how fast Kallum Myhill learnt his lines to step in as the part of Lysander.
On the stage nobody let nerves get the better of them and we gave the best performance we had ever performed despite intimidating judges and spectators.
Our rehearsals definitely paid off when we were given 88 marks and awarded distinction! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and guardians that supported us by attending the festival and helping with props.
A second achievement came when we were awarded best improvisation piece, we were only given 10 minutes to prepare a piece titled ‘Desperate’. Overall we gave a humorous and confident piece of drama that we were proud of.
The whole experience was extremely rewarding and satisfying – BRING ON NEXT YEAR!!!
