King Ethelbert students, staff, parents and carers, special guests and friends of the school celebrated both individual and collective successes at King Ethelbert School’s annual Presentation Afternoon, held at the Winter Gardens on Wednesday 20th November. The school was celebrating its record breaking GCSE results in the summer, when 54% of students gained 5A*-C grades including English and Maths; the best results of all Thanet high schools. Prizes also reflected huge success for the School’s first cohort of Year 13 students who achieved outstanding results in the IBCC in the summer. The proceedings were ably opened by Head Boy, Gregory Nocentini, with the Head Girl, Charli Nicholson delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks at the end. The afternoon included musical performances from students across the school, as well as speeches, including guest speaker Mr. Matt Hayes, an ex student and now a successful architect involved in many projects within the education sector.
Kate Greig, Headteacher, spoke about the sense of community at the school and the terrific team effort made by students, staff and families to achieve successes to be proud of. “ Each year we take on new challenges and drive up standards. Our mantra at King Ethelbert is we will all do whatever we have to do in order to provide the very best for our young people.” Amongst the guests at the Presentation Afternoon were Kent County Council’s Corporate Director of Education, Learning and Skills, Patrick Leeson, one of the Chief Executives of Pixl (Partners in Excellence) Nick Ware and the Mayor of Margate, John Edwards. The whole school community shared in the celebrations, with students across all year groups receiving prizes for individual successes and achievements.
