It seems unbelievable that yet another school year is over and the summer break is here again. It has been a fantastic year with so much to celebrate and our position in Kent as one of its top schools has strengthened considerably for a number of reasons.
Our examination results last summer were the best of any non-selective school in Thanet and the early entry results in November were stunning, setting us on course to have another excellent set of examination results this summer. On July 5th we received the Sixth Form examination results which were superb. All our students managed to achieve the IBCC Certificate with top grades in all diploma subjects as well as the BTEC element of the course. The students from Year 13 all have the grades they need to go on to what they want to do in the future with the majority going on to University to study a wide range of degree subjects.
As you know, we had another Ofsted in June and we got a wonderful report which highlighted some of the most important things about King Ethelbert. The report contains a lot about the excellent academic progress our students make during their time at King Ethelbert, but it also comments on the sense of team and the commitment, dedication and loyalty of all connected with our school. I was delighted that Ofsted recognised “the respectful and harmonious ethos which permeates the school community” and the lead inspector said our students were simply stunning over the two day inspection – he actually described them as impeccable. I am always proud of our students but this was a particular moment of pride and joy when the comments made were so incredibly positive and showed how proud the students are of their school and really wanted to show it off!
As always, there have been numerous trips and visits throughout the year and this weekend 39 Year 10 students completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award which is not an easy award to gain. This weekend also saw the culmination of the Boot Camp with a stunning set of very alternative performances on Friday evening – the staff and the students worked incredibly hard all week but it was hugely worth the efforts. We have begun our partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company and there are many exciting opportunities to come next year for students, parents and members of our school community so do keep an eye on the website for all the various activities taking place.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a hugely successful year. The staff work incredibly hard, the students always make us proud and parents are so supportive that we cannot fail to have another successful year next year. Very many best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable summer break to you all.
