This course is for people who are interested in engineering. This may be in the role of a technician or a multi-skilled technician. This is an area where there is a skills shortage in the UK. This course is taught at the Thanet Skills Studio, Westwood.

There are 4 core units which must be studied. These are:

• Working practices in engineering
• Using and interpreting engineering information
• Applied electrical and mechanical science for technicians
• Mathematics for engineering

The optional units will be taken from one of the following areas: -

• Engineering manufacturing;
• Engineering maintenance; or
• Engineering electronics

All of the units have some practical work. It is important that the student is confident in their mathematics ability
