Working with charities

Enjewel India

Every other year a group of King Ethelbert School pupils visits Goa in India to support Enjewl India.  EnJewel India is a social enterprise aimed at providing support for an AIDS orphanage in Cavelossim, Goa. The orphanage takes in small children who have been ostracised by their communities because either they or their parents have AIDS. The orphanage provides for them, sends them to a nearby school and sets up a small trust fund so that each child can have a start in life once they have left the orphanage.

6 pupils made an inaugural life changing trip in 2006 and, in 2008, a further 14 visited.  We plan to take more pupils this year so that they can see first hand what their funds are able to do for the small children. Fundraising activities include: selling jewellery, curry evening, invitation golf day, various fayres, non-uniform days and hopefully a race night.

If you would like to know more about this enterprise please read the document below or contact Pat Buckley at the school.

Thanet Hospice

Sometimes when pupils pay for school meals they do not want their change.  Whenever this occurs, this small change is donated to Thanet Hospice.

Breast Cancer Awareness

On Tueasday 13th May the school held a non-uniform day in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness.  Pupils were asked to wear pink, if possible, for a £1 donation.  A total of £447.65 was raised for the charity.   We raised money for the same cause on Friday 17th October and a further £583.09 was raised.
